100in1day: A safer pedestrian crossing outside our Edmonton studio

Have you heard of 100in1day? As they introduce it: 100In1Day is all about putting thought-provoking ideas into small-scale interventions for one day. It’s an annual celebration of active citizenship, where we collectively celebrate what makes our communities great, and implement ideas about how we can work together towards a better city and a better world.

This year, our contribution to 100In1Day focused on place making and improving traffic safety around the mid-block crosswalk on 104 street, right outside our Edmonton studio. The gold balloons spell out WALK and flower planters were a ray of sunshine on an otherwise gloomy day. It was great to see our cheerful intervention at work: drivers were slowing down and pedestrians felt safer as they crossed!

One of the DIALOGers behind the activation, Chelsea Whitty, was checking on the balloons at lunch when she was approached by a writer/photographer from the Edmonton Journal. The installation had caught their eye, and Chelsea was able to explain what we were up to. Check out the Edmonton Journal video above, and read the article here.
