14 fabulous funiculars from around the globe, plus one more we can’t stop talking about
There’s something undeniably fabulous about funiculars that residents and visitors of Edmonton will soon experience.
The City of Edmonton has long sought to improve connectivity for the public between urban areas and the North Saskatchewan River valley. The Mechanized River Valley Access project includes an urban staircase and funicular, creating a unique opportunity to access and experience Edmonton’s ribbon of green. The project offers the potential to be an entrance to the river valley for everyone, regardless of age and ability, and a focal point that will bring people together in the heart of the city.
While this project isn’t expected to open until 2017, today marks the beginning of construction. If you’re still wondering why we can’t stop talking about Edmonton’s future funicular, check out these 14 fabulous funiculars from around the globe.
