Congratulations to our New Associates!

Congratulations to our New Associates!

Each year at this time we assemble across our studios to recognize and celebrate the individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication to practice, and unwavering commitment to working together to improve the wellbeing of our communities. Becoming an Associate at DIALOG is not so much a promotion as it is a recognition of outstanding leadership – the ability to go above and beyond each and every day. This leadership at DIALOG takes on many forms, and this year we welcome 5 Architects, 1 Contract Administrator, an Electrical Engineer and an Electrical Designer onto the Associates Team. The recognition of these individuals is a testament to their hard work, experience and dedication to DIALOG’s values. Please join us in celebrating these fine team members who are DIALOG’s newest associates:

  • HENRY DOORNBERG, Electrical Engineering, Calgary
  • GERARD DOURADO, Architecture, Toronto
  • ALEN NIZNIK, Contract Administration, Toronto
  • MATT PARKS, Architecture, Calgary
  • GUY POCOCK, Architecture, Calgary
  • ADRIAN POLITANO, Architecture, Vancouver
  • TREVOR THIMM, Architecture, Vancouver
  • JUSTIN TOMPSON, Architectural Technologist, Vancouver
  • DAVID YOUNG, Director of Electrical Design, Toronto

Congratulations from all of us at DIALOG!

DIALOG Associate, Electrical Engineer

With over 31 years of experience, and successive management positions with three electrical consulting firms, Henry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of electrical systems related to various project types. These include institutional, commercial, healthcare, recreational, residential and light industrial facilities. You name it, he knows it. When it comes to electrical system design Henry has experience in conceptual design, through schematic to contract documentation, and construction administration. Past projects have included power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, telephone, data, security, communication systems and has also implemented “intelligent building” principles on past projects.

Dourado-Gerard 2016 New

Studio: Toronto

DIALOG Associate, Architect

Gerard Dourado, an Architect in the Toronto studio, has 18 years of production and project management experience. He spent the last 8 years at Stantec, primarily as a job captain and then as a project manager working on a number of large scale institutional projects including the George Brown College Waterfront Campus, Cambridge Memorial Hospital and the Renew Sinai project. Gerard is looking forward to contributing toward Standards and Staffing at DIALOG. Gerard would like to start using Revit but feels like an old dad with new technology – all the young DIALOG kids get frustrated with him. He’s also (illogically) very scared of birds, especially pigeons.

DIALOG Associate, Contract Administrator

Alen’s career in construction began in carpentry. He eventually moved into the world of Property Management, spending 17 years acting as a Senior Construction Manager for one of the most prestigious landlords in Western Canada. Throughout his career, Alen has developed expertise around many project elements including needs assessment, charter development, budget development, funding approvals, design team procurement, contractor selection, contract award and administration and close out documentation – making him a natural fit for DIALOG in his current role as Contract Administrator.

Parks - Matthew

Studio: Calgary

DIALOG Associate, Architect

Since joining DIALOG in 2006, Matthew has spent the majority of his tenure working on the Calgary International Facilities Project. Over the evolution of the 10 year, $1.6 billion project Matt has been actively involved in all aspects of terminal design, master planning and land use re-designation, programming and schematic design, construction documentation and operational phasing. Sustainable principles, commitment to high performance, and a cross disciplinary approach were drivers for the design – all areas he looks forward to incorporating in future projects.

He joins us from Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning where he worked up the ranks as an Associate, Senior Associate, and for a short period, as a principal.  While with Kasian he worked on a number of notable projects including the Air Canada Arrivals Level of the Calgary International Airport, The Alberta Children’s Hospital and the South Health Campus, the National Music Centre (Studio Bell), the Calgary Stampede Youth Campus, The Calgary Film Centre and the Land of Lemurs at the Calgary Zoo.

DIALOG Associate, Architect

Adrian has been with DIALOG (what was then Hotson Bakker Boniface Haden) since he was an undergraduate in 2004. He left for a short stint to finish a Master’s Degree in 2008 and hasn’t dared leave since. As an Architect at DIALOG he has worked on the Olympic Village Plaza, Brentwood College School Student Centre and Dining Hall, The Southlands Residence, Revelstoke Secondary School, Granville and 13th Commercial Building, Ten of the ever famous, JJ Bean locations in Vancouver and Toronto, The VPL/YWCA Library and Housing Project, Several multi-family residential and mixed use projects such as Arbutus Centre, The Mark, The Hendrix and the Davie & Bidwell Tower. Looking at this list, we are unsure if anything would have been done in Vancouver without him.

DIALOG Associate, Architect

Trevor has over 17 years of international experience in architecture, urban design and the coordination of large scale projects. Prior to joining DIALOG, he was an associate at Moshe Safdie and Associates in Boston where his most notable role was leading the successful bid for the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort in Singapore. Since joining DIALOG in 2007, Trevor has led the design of numerous masterplan and mixed-use developments including projects in Coquitlam, B.C., Salinas California and more recently Denver. He was involved in the new Student Union Building at UBC, and in 2011 he led the rezoning efforts for BIG’s highly anticipated Vancouver House project. We are very grateful to his wife, without whom we would not have Trevor. It was her who recommend that he work at the Vancouver studio after she took up shop next door at Cornerstone Architecture.

DIALOG Associate, Architectural Technologist

Justin has been working in the AEC industry for 19 years and has been with DIALOG for 4 years. Justin’s project experience has spanned industrial facilities, office parks, border crossings, high-rise residential and more recently transit facilities. As an Architectural Technologist, his penchant for tackling challenging opportunities has been matched with his project delivery role. What he enjoys most about DIALOG is the people. Justin remarks how he is repeatedly impressed with our diversity of experiences and skillsets, while we always look to seek out where we can improve.

Studio: Toronto DIALOG Associate, Director of Electric Design

David Young has worked in consulting engineering for over 31 years at Crossey Engineering, joining DIALOG this past October. He’s been the Senior Project Manager on a multitude of projects, including international work in Russia, Morocco, and Dubai. David’s responsibilities have ranged from electrical project design and production, to project management including site supervision, contract administration and interface with owners and other consultants. While at Crossey, David developed a small telecommunications group that came to include security and AV expertise. For David, the best part of working on projects is the exploration of new ideas and collaboration. For him, these are the areas that make our industry exciting and are fundamental reasons why he was drawn to DIALOG.
