Evoke DIALOG – St. Joseph Seminary
That was the question posed to Donna Clare, Principal Architect, when DIALOG was asked to design the new home of St. Joseph Seminary.
Seminarians spend up to nine years discerning their call to serve the church. For these future priests, the building nourishes and illuminates their faith and strengthens their spiritual formation.
Think in hundreds of years
The opportunity to design a seminary doesn’t come around very often. Hundreds of years of Catholic history are reflected in the features of St. Joseph Seminary. The seminary will remain intact and relevant for hundreds more.
The chapel is uplifting. Historic stained glass windows—carefully restored and transferred from their previous location—paint jewel-toned light across the walls. Curved forms embrace the altar and lead the eye up to the heavens. The gilded pillar of their faith, the tabernacle holding the Holy Eucharist, is the centerpiece of the chapel and an axis of orientation for the entire seminary.
The multi-disciplinary team that designed St. Joseph Seminary, regardless of their own faith, found the project incredibly rewarding. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime project that DIALOG is proud to be a part of.
