Foothills Medical Centre – McCaig Tower

The Foothills Medical Centre’s nine-storey McCaig Tower combines the Interventional Trauma OR, ICU and rehabilitation treatment into one building. The Interventional Trauma OR introduces the ability to perform angiographic procedures – a medical imaging technique used to visualize the inside of blood vessels and organs of the body – to the trauma operating room. By combining these functions, critical time is saved in the treatment of highly unstable patients.

The Multisystem ICU is truly a healing environment. The space features large private patient rooms with natural light and large windows maintaining the patient’s diurnal rhythms. Family areas include spaces to visit, sleep, make meals, watch television, and have private meetings.

The facility includes a Terrace Room for end of life care and family gathering with ample room for a patient bed, multiple family members, natural light and privacy. Colour schemes and artwork represent connections to the region’s landscape, nature and heritage, are in each patient room, as well as throughout the unit.

DIALOG worked to design the best physical space possible to resuscitate and heal patients. From large private patient rooms with natural light and world-class health services, the McCaig Tower is a world-class facility.
