Hop on the Treeter Totter

Hop on the Treeter Totter

As adults, we often forget that ideas come from a place of play, exploration, wonder and intrigue.

The Treeter Totter was imagined up by a couple of DIALOGers who were playing around in the modeling room with model trees and scraps of wood. Suddenly, the placement of disparate elements came together to become this conversation piece.

Fast forward a few months, a team of DIALOGers – architects, structural engineers, landscape architects and more – are making the Treeter Totter a reality.

We’ve teamed up with Stuart Olson to construct it for the Beakerhead Festival – a five day mash-up of art, engineering and science taking place in Calgary September 19-23, 2018.

Did you know…Trees are heavy!  The Elm trees we are using for the installation weigh about 800 lbs each. And most of the weight is in the root ball, something you don’t really conceptually think about given all the trees we pass by everyday.

Stay tuned for more facts, and follow our journey as we bring the Treeter Totter to life!

PS: This installation is free and open to everyone – it doesn’t get any more inclusive than this. Share the links below with your family and friends:
