Not for Grandma: Heritage Conservation and Contemporary Design
According to Antonio Gomez-Palacio, it is not for the sake of our grandparents that we commemorate history, it is for our own devious benefit. It is because it can improve our quality of life, and give our children a sense of direction in life. In his recent talk to the Ontario Heritage Planners, Antonio argues that we need to develop contemporary ways of engaging heritage conservation. Heritage conservation, he says, has to be a forward looking enterprise; one where we can treat historical buildings and landscapes as our collective inheritance – (re)investing them in our future.
