Raymond Block Achieves LEED® Platinum
The newest mixed-use development on Whyte Avenue is now LEED® Platinum Certified!
Raymond Block has brought new life to a desolate corner in Edmonton’s vibrant Old Strathcona neighbourhood. The site was vacant for almost 20 years due to contaminated soil from a former gas station, but now it is a re-energized mix of retail, restaurants, office space, and residential.
Raymond Block is designed to fit in with the heritage buildings around it. A variety of facades break up the long street-level podium, and provide a more human scale for passersby. The 6-storey tower of residential suites is set back from the street to provide privacy for residents, and to be less imposing at street level.
Raymond Block is named after the Raymond Hotel which was on the site in the early 1900s. History greets you when you walk in the residential lobby, too. Reclaimed bricks from downtown’s old Kelly Ramsey Building are on display on the large 2-storey feature wall.
The high walkability and abundance of nearby amenities contributed to the LEED® Platinum certification, in addition to the superior thermal insulation and airtightness. An abundance of natural light and healthy air circulation makes this building very comfortable to call home.
