High Performance: The Whistler Athletes’ Centre (Video)
Is there anything better than a summer visit to Whistler? We think not, so to start your post Canada Day morning, check out this video of the Whistler Athletes’ High Performance Centre.
The Centre served as a training venue for top athletes before, during and after the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Designed by DIALOG to be a lasting legacy from the Olympic Games, the athletic centre is a highly sustainable, LEED® Silver Certified project. It uses energy from a nearby sewage treatment plant to provide heating and cooling for the building, uses local materials, natural ventilation, radiant heating and cooling and on-site stormwater management. Offsite prefabrication methods were used in construction to produce high-quality results within tight time and budget constraints.
The 20,000 sq. ft. facility is organized around a fitness centre and gymnastics gym and is a neighbourhood centre for the new community evolving from the Athlete’s Village at Whistler. It has external courtyards, an interior atrium and classroom, social and gathering spaces, and acts as a regional training ground for the British Columbia’s elite athletes.
