Dartmouth General Hospital
Flexible Facilities
Dartmouth General Hospital
- Generative Space
The Dartmouth General Hospital represents the biggest healthcare upgrade project in Nova Scotia in recent years. The design scope includes new inpatient rooms, operating rooms, recovery rooms, a renovated intensive care unit, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory care, endoscopy unit, MDRD, and Pharmacy.
- Healthy Interaction
Dartmouth General Hospital is designed to break down boundaries and promote interaction. This will be achieved through the reorientation and development of new main entrance and public circulation spine, and the creation of a new atrium space for staff and patients.
- Design Camps
The design team utilized “design camps” to develop the program and schematic design for the project; travelling to Halifax for a week at a time to meet with hospital departments multiple times over several days. In the evenings, the team would work to make revisions based on user input. The benefit was the information was fresh in everyone’s mind and there wasn’t confusion over meeting notes. It also generated excitement from users that resulted in increased attendance and improved engagement throughout the project.
