Transforming Edmonton from the ground up

By 2016, downtown Edmonton’s busiest thoroughfare will be unrecognizable from the dusty parking lots that bordered the street just two years prior. DIALOG’s role, which started on the north side of 104 avenue at Rogers Place Arena, has expanded to the south, and now includes work on 9 out of 13 major components of the ICE District, beginning with the architectural and structural design of the 2,100 stall car park below the site. At ground level, DIALOG and PFS Studio are designing the heart of the district – the plaza – which will become a community hub with year-round programming; a public realm unlike anything else in Canada. And above ground, DIALOG and Hariri Pontarini Architects are collaboratively designing the hotel and condo tower/podium, as well as the old Greyhound site tower/podium which will include a Cineplex Odeon theatre.

Viva Las Edmonton

The ICE District has been designed for Edmonton’s insatiable desire for entertainment. Once completed, Canada’s largest mixed-use sports and entertainment development will include condos, a four-star JW Marriott hotel, restaurants, bars, and fitness facilities. Rogers Place will generate 2.2 million spectators each year, Cineplex Odeon is estimated to attract 750,000 movie-goers per year, and a major casino will generate 750,000 visits a year; amounting to 3.7 million visits per year through these three tenants alone!
