Mount Royal Hotel
Patchwork Canadiana
The Mount Royal Hotel is one of the most significant hotels in Banff, representing a full city block in the heart of downtown. After a devastating fire, the hotel has been redesigned to celebrate its rich history while providing guests with the ultimate Albertan experience.
- A nod to history
With a history spanning over a century, MRH is a layered piece of architecture, representing four eras (40’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s). The design inspiration reimagines the building as a quilt, symbolizing the different generations of the hotel coming together as a significant piece of Canadiana, emulating the “patchwork of architecture.”
- Historic feel, modern amenities
Collaborating with the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, historic and archived materials such as posters, photos, and original check-in books offer a curated museum experience for the guests.
- Mountain moments
The downstairs lobby acts as a place of community interaction and engagement, welcoming the general public. The second floor includes a lounge area, allowing a comfortable setting for guests to relax and check-in as a start to their journey at the hotel.
