Mount Royal University – Riddell Library and Learning Centre
Gathering great minds towards a higher education and engaging possibilities.
- Beyond Learning
The Riddell Library and Learning Centre is the newest building project within the Mount Royal University campus. With an elegant façade that inscribes a translatable pattern, this building ties notions of literacy to our modern world. The project is borne out of an intensive program and necessity to decant and house, not only the current campus library, but also several teaching and administrative spaces. As part of the conversion of Mount Royal from a College to a University, new degree programs and faculties are being developed. One of these new faculties is the inaugural Department of Education and Schooling which is instructional space for future teachers. It will encompass four floors of public collaborative spaces, offices and administration, classrooms, labs and library collections. The building massing and program registers all library collections, public areas, and collaborative spaces, to the south with office and administration to the north.
- More Than A Façade
The façade hosts an encrypted pattern and represents the translation of literature to reflect the modern age of libraries.
- Driving Technology
The facility will house Faculty of Teaching and Learning, Student Learning Services and Library. It will have many collaborative spaces with a focus on technology.
- Sustainable Performance
Targeting LEED Gold, with a high performance envelope and full programmable LED Lighting.
The landscaped south plaza creates a forecourt and emphasizes the public realm in addition to complementing the new conservatory.
