University of Calgary Energy Environment Experiential Learning Project (EEEL)
Power Play
Instead of getting off the grid, EEEL is helping students and researchers find ways of redesigning it altogether.
- Sustainability Center Point
EEEL is the administrative centre for the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment, and Economy, as well as six academic disciplines, 3 in Science and 3 in Engineering.
- Not too hot, not too cold….
In addition to a high-performance envelope with triple glazing, the building features radiant floor and ceiling systems, and earth tubes heat and cool the main theater.
- Oooooh….shiny
Glass-and-aluminum exterior, bright-green solar shutters on the north and south façades.
- Energy Data
Large touchscreens at the south entrance and on each floor of the building display the building’s energy metrics.
