Warehouse Tech-Over

With tech organizations such as Google, Microsoft, and Hootsuite designing offices to entice top tech savvy professionals, how does a young tech firm create an office space to attract talent without breaking the bank? Cue DIALOG. Our design team transformed a warehouse on Vancouver’s Lower East Side for STAT Search Analytics.

Vancouver

Rejuvination

In Early 2016, DIALOG revitalized a 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse located in Railtown; a dilapidated area in need of social attention on Vancouver’s Lower East Side. It’s no secret that affordability is an issue in Vancouver’s rental market and Railtown offers rates at a level that start-ups can stomach. The transformation of the warehouse reflects STAT’s young, energetic and non-corporate culture. All the forms in the space mean something. They are directly related to the web matrix that makes up the core of STAT’s branding and business. This main source of inspiration and concept transpired from STAT’s polygon-based brand graphics, which symbolize a network of ordered information with nodes and points of discovery. These shapes were used as volumes for all meeting room environments. Artwork was commissioned by local artist, Lucien Durey, who created custom pieces that represent scenes of East Vancouver.

What Makes it Work?

Not your typical data company, STAT is far from corporate and an open space concept is just what they needed to best support their working habits. People can find quiet spaces to work, or can flock to gathering spaces for informal meetings. The 2,000 sq ft second floor mezzanine is home to the communal social space and eatery, which is kitted out with beer and wine taps along with flexible furniture and technology screens. The mezzanine provides a vantage point of the office, offering a true respect for the space.

Future Proofed

Growing steadily, STAT currently has 33 employees today and is projecting to have 50 by the end of 2017. The space is pre-planned for this growth. One of the main objectives was to design a space that breathed. This environment won’t pack tech genius’ in like sardines.

Elevating Output

DIALOG believes that great interior design should tell a story that draws on the character of the community. STAT’s new office design has raised the creative energy within the organization, allowing for better collaboration and a higher standard of work. For STAT, creating a space that told their story was as important as the design of the office. Together, these were critical elements to help them grow their business and energize their employees “Working with DIALOG has allowed us to create a space that reflects our vision and work culture, and to attract talented people to join us,” says Rob Bucci, CEO of STAT Search Analytics. “Since the move, we’ve seen major improvements in our ability to attract top talent. We’ve also seen our people really step up their already high standards, with every team showing a new level of sophistication and pride in their work. I believe this is a direct result of having an equally sophisticated workspace that inspires them.”
