TELUS World of Science-Edmonton Dome Theatre and S.P.A.C.E. Gallery
New dome and dramatic entry makes this planetarium the star of the show.
- Reach for the Stars
The Zeidler Dome Theatre steals the show with its unique approach to the planetarium experience. The experience of space begins before you enter the theatre. Feature stairs represent a journey through a wormhole into the darkness of space. The entry staircase reaches down and engages the ground level, the wall panels reflect the light of twinkling star features and foreshadow the visuals of the Starlight room.
- Constellation Interpretation
The second stop for future guests of the dome theatre is the vestibule, an anteroom that minimizes light and sound. This quietness is achieved through heavy materials such as felt and carpet. The unexpected hush enhances the mural and light installations on the east wall. These are called the Wintermaker and the Hole in the Sky, concurrent with the Taurus and Pleiades constellations, and are meant to acknowledge the interpretations of different cultures.
- Under the Dome
The materiality and colour palette of the dome are a continuation of the vestibule, with dark colours and weighty materials contributing to the otherworldly sensation. The solar system is brought even closer by lowering the dome as well as the peripheral perimeter. High-definition sound and omnidirectional 10K resolution cameras complete the transformation by enhancing the sensory experience. This will inspire all generations to explore not only the world around them, but the world beyond them.
- Destination Moon
Along with the revamping of the Zeilder Dome Theatre, the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery also underwent a refreshing transformation. We designed the fit-out and entrance of the Gallery, with the TELUS World of Science taking the reins for the construction of the interior of the exhibit itself. The entrance to the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery starts at the foot of the feature stair, and becomes a background for the exhibit artifacts.
