Vivo for Healthier Generations
The Healthy Heart
A fitness and research centre takes aim at a new model for health + wellness in the core of Calgary
- Healthy living leadership
Vivo is on a mission to raise healthier generations in Calgary and beyond; everything the organization does, including the expansion, is anchored to this vision. By design, the facility will role model and demonstrate innovation and healthy living leadership. The main project components include an expanded aquatics centre, an expanded fitness centre, an indoor park, and the Canadian Healthier Living Academy for Healthier Generations.
- Into the pool
The expanded aquatics centre features a cooler water 6-lane 25-metre pool tank to compliment the existing leisure pool. The addition also includes double water slides (with tower and deceleration chutes), deck-side classroom, new steam room, new lifeguarding office, staff dedicated locker rooms and a new first aid room. The existing leisure pool will be repurposed and revitalized for more social gathering and spontaneous use.
Almost tripling the current fitness area in size, the new space will feature 2 Zen studios, 1 Spin room, an enclosed consultation space, and an equipment repair room. The Fitness Centre component also includes new men’s and women’s ‘dry’ locker rooms, meaning there is no pool access from the change room.
- Indoor park
The most innovative aspect of the expansion will be an indoor park – a literal moving indoors of all physical and social activities one would engage in at a park: from spontaneous play such as hide and seek, 3-on-3 soccer with jackets as goal posts, or reading a good book under the trees; to social gatherings such as movie in the park nights; to structured programs like bootcamps; all the way to community rentals. The park will include hillside play, a zen garden, activity nodes, and an urban beach.
- Canadian Academy for Healthier Generations
A new blueprint for healthy living in the heart of the community, the Canadian Academy will include a living lab space simulating ‘real-life’ environments, a dedicated space for 1-on-1 consultations, a multi-purpose classroom, and a multimedia studio.
