Markdale Hospital provides inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services to approximately 22,000 people in central Ontario. The vision is to develop a new rural health centre model that co-locates and integrates primary care services with acute, hospital-based services. From the patient perspective, this creates a convenient one-stop shopping experience for their healthcare needs. The Master Plan / Business Case as well as the design and construction of a new facility will significantly increase space requirements for emergency, outpatient ambulatory services, diagnostic services, and surgery. In response to the unique demographic challenge, not only will the new hospital improve clinical practice areas and the patient care environment, it will set a benchmark in elder-friendly design.
