Edmonton Convention Centre Atrium Renovation Honoured with CCE Award of Excellence

November 2, 2021

DIALOG’s atrium modernization project on Edmonton’s Convention Centre has been recognized with an Award of Excellence in the Buildings Category at this year’s Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE) Awards.

Hosted virtually by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine, the Awards program represents the highest honours for excellence in consulting engineering in Canada.

Awards are presented to firms whose projects connect communities, improve safety and enhance the quality of life for Canadians, and winning projects are selected based on high-quality engineering, imagination and innovation.

The revitalization of Edmonton Convention Centre’s multi-level atrium along the slope of Edmonton’s river valley was an opportunity to do more than just replace 35-year old glazing. DIALOG’s solution includes a higher performance building envelope, modernized lighting and mechanical systems, structural upgrades, and Canada’s largest building-integrated photovoltaic system—harnessing solar power for the Centre’s use—with an embedded Morse code poem to enjoy. It allows the Edmonton Convention Centre to showcase their ambitious sustainability goals while helping to achieve them.

DIALOG’s team proudly provided mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering, and architectural services to this award-winning project. Congratulations to all involved, including our collaborators Howell-Mayhew Engineering, Morrison Hershfield, and Bird Construction.
